01MISSION

National Editorial Independence Shield

The Editors Club of India declares that every editor in India must have complete editorial independence as a constitutional right and a democratic necessity. This Manifesto reiterates its commitment to establishing a strong national protection system to keep journalism free from any institutional, political, corporate or external interference. The organization will resist any form of pressure, censorship, blackmailing, or direct or indirect suppression in editorial decisions, considering it an attack on the fourth pillar of the nation. The mission is to build an India where editorial independence is not merely an ideal, but an implemented national standard.

02MISSION

National War on Disinformation

In today's digital world, misinformation is one of the greatest challenges to democracy. Therefore, ECI commits to establishing a National Anti-Disinformation Command Centre, where AI-enabled fact-checking systems, verification protocols, and real-time support for editors across the country will be available. This centre will analyse disinformation networks active across social media, digital portals, print and television media, issue reports, and work towards providing the citizens of India with a fact-based media environment.

03MISSION

Editors Protection and Legal Security Act Movement

In many parts of India, attacks on journalists, threats, misuse of FIRs and institutional harassment have become common. The Editors Club of India considers this situation unacceptable and emphasizes the need for a strong national law for journalist protection. The organization officially demands an Editors Protection Act, which shall include—

Fast-track investigation in cases of attacks
A ban on misuse of FIRs
Appointment of a Special Prosecutor
Anti-intimidation provisions
And prohibition of retaliatory actions against editors

Such provisions will be included. This mission will become a historic effort to provide legal protection to media freedom.

Media Policy Reforms 2025

Policy ambiguity and regulatory imbalance in India's media ecosystem have remained challenges for a long time. Therefore, ECI aims to develop a comprehensive Media Policy Reform Framework, which will include—

National standards for press freedom
A unified policy for digital media
Balanced dialogue between regulators and media
Transparency in government advertising
And an accountability framework within media houses

Such provisions will be included. This document will determine the direction of India's future media governance.

05MISSION

National Editors Leadership & Capacity Building Academy

Progressive editorial leadership is essential for a progressive nation. Therefore, ECI commits to establishing a National Academy that will provide world-class training in—

Editorial leadership
Media ethics
Digital journalism
Fact-checking technology
AI tools
Crisis reporting
Newsroom management

Such areas will receive world-class training. This academy will lay the foundation for future editorial leadership in the country.

Digital Newsroom Modernization Mission

Understanding the power of digital media, ECI will undertake a comprehensive modernization campaign. Under this programme, the following will be made available to every member media institution—

AI-enabled newsroom tools
Data journalism infrastructure
Verification technology
Disaster and conflict reporting protocols
Cybersecurity systems

These resources will be made available to every member media institution. This mission will make India a leading nation in 21st-century editorial competition.

07MISSION

Government–Media Institutional Dialogue Forum

Transparent dialogue between the government and the media is essential for a healthy democracy. ECI will create a permanent platform where regular institutional discussions will take place on—

Policy-making
Press freedom
Challenges faced by the media
And citizens' rights

Regular institutional discussions will be held on these matters. This forum will reduce mutual conflict and play a historic role in establishing balance between the media and governance.

08MISSION

National Campaign for the Empowerment of Regional and Rural Editors

The real voice of India lies with editors in small cities, towns and villages, but they face a lack of resources and platforms. To eliminate this gap, ECI will undertake a mission to provide—

Training
Technology assistance
National networking
And access to resources

This mission will provide these facilities. This campaign will become the largest initiative to bring rural media into the national mainstream.

Editors Legal Support Cell

Editors should receive immediate assistance during any crisis—legal, administrative or professional. ECI will establish a 24x7 Legal Support Cell that will provide—

Legal consultation
Document preparation
Emergency assistance
And a nationwide network of lawyers

These facilities will be provided. This cell will provide a practical foundation for the protection of journalists.

National Media Ethics & Accountability Charter

The Editors Club of India recognizes that journalism is not only a right but also a national responsibility. With this vision, ECI will issue a high-level Ethics Charter in which—

will be declared the highest editorial values. This Charter will determine the ethical direction of Indian media.
